Houston’s the greatest city on the planet. Don’t even try to argue with us on this one. Whether you’re here to live and work or travel and play (or #allofthethings), Houston has it all.
Today, we’re highlighting some of our favorite Houston hotspots — places where you can eat, drink, relax and more. And, it helps that they’re all #UHBauer alumni-owned. ???
Glazed the Doughnut Café
Locations: Med Center (1333 Old Spanish Trail; Houston, TX 77054) & Memorial (13429 Briar Forest Drive; Houston, TX 77077)
Their slogan is “because life is better with a doughnut.” Not sure you need more information, but in case you do — Houston’s premier specialty doughnut shop was launched in 2013 by Edose “Ose” Ohen, who had just completed the Bauer MBA program. On the menu, you’ll find creative & tasty options, like #TheMacon (a maple bacon doughnut), the Glazed Breakfast Sandwich and doughnuts covered in Fruity Pebbles, Oreos and Kit Kats. The best part? They’re open 24 hours.
8th Wonder Brewery
Location: 2202 Dallas Street (Houston, TX 77003)
Even if you’re not into beer, 8th Wonder Brewery is an awesome place to hang near downtown Houston, full of fun décor celebrating the city’s sports scene. You can usually find an activity happening in or around the taproom, from Yoga & Hops (scheduled next for March 31) to a concert (including the March 30 8th Track Music Series). President, co-founder & hype man Ryan Soroka (MBA/MS ’11) says that he wants every customer to feel like they belong at 8th Wonder. Mission accomplished.
Smallcakes: A Cupcakery
Location: 1531 Eldridge Parkway, Unit 130 (Houston, TX 77077)
Spellcheck tells us that “smallcakes” and “cupcakery” aren’t real words, but Spellcheck obviously hasn’t tasted these delicious gourmet cupcakes. #UHBauer alumna Nadia Saqr (BBA ’05) is owner of Smallcakes Houston, LLC, and CEO for U.S. franchises of Smallcakes: A Cupcakery, so you can erase any feelings of guilt you might have for indulging with pride in supporting one of your own.
