Friday the 13th could be your lucky day ― if you’re planning to attend the #UHBauer Fall Business Career Fair hosted by Rockwell Career Center, and you’ve done everything you need to do to prepare for the big day.
If you’ve got the Career Fair on your calendar (Friday, 9/13, from noon to 4 p.m. in the UH Hilton) but aren’t sure you’re fully ready, we’ve worked with our friends from the Rockwell Career Center on this list of 5 questions you should ask yourself in order to make the best impression on employers.
Is Your Résumé Ready?
Hopefully, you were able to take advantage of Résumé ER last week or in previous semesters. If not, be sure to check out the Bauer Résumé formats (BBA) (MBA/MS). These formats were approved by employers who work with the Rockwell Career Center and receive hundreds of résumés a year. The format allows the recruiter to easily find the information they need to move you closer to your goal!
Have You Done Your Research?
You wouldn’t walk into a STATs exam without studying, right? Then why would you forget to study where you want to work for your Summer Internship or Full-Time Job? Research should be part of your plan and Bauer Career Gateway gives you access to tools to research the companies you are interested in. Check out the resources under External Links on the homepage of Bauer Career Gateway.
Have You Practiced Your “30 Second Me?”
If you are new to networking or career fair events, it’s always great to have a plan of introduction! If you aren’t sure what to say, here are a few basic points on how to introduce yourself to possible employers:
- Name
- Classification (Junior, Senior, MBA, etc.)
- Major / Degree Program
- Your purpose for attending the event (“I’m currently seeking an internship for next summer.”)
Are You Dressed to Impress?
Career Fair is a professional dress event, and if you aren’t dressed appropriately, you may be turned away. Unsure what professional dress means? Check out this post on “What to Wear” to Career Fair. Also, if you are looking on tips how to tie a tie, see video below!
What Do You Do After Career Fair?
You’ve met with employers, collected a few business cards, and now you wait for a call, right? Wrong! Just because the career fair is over, there is still work to be done! Not sure where to start? Here are a few pointers on what you should do:
- Follow Up with recruiters! Check out this sample follow up from HireBauer.com
- Did the recruiter ask you to connect on LinkedIn? Make sure you take advantage of that! If you don’t have LinkedIn or your profile needs a tune-up, check out our LinkedIn Resources and this Getting Started guide from LinkedIn.
- If the company posted jobs on Bauer Career Gateway, go apply!
