Do you feel the chill in the air? Can you smell (and taste) all that pumpkin? It’s official: we’ve fallen for Fall.
And what better way to celebrate our favorite season than to ask some of your favorite #UHBauer students, faculty, staff and alumni for their fall faves?
“It’s just a bunch of Hocus Pocus.”
Program Manager, Ted Bauer Leadership Certificate Program
“My favorite thing about fall is watching throwback movies like Hocus Pocus and It’s The Great Pumpkin, Charlie Brown. There is nothing like some good old fashioned fall nostalgia. Is there any other reason to love fall?”
Director, Accounting Advising and Recruitment
“One of my favorite things about fall is watching Hocus Pocus on TV! The movie was released in 1993 and it’s become a Halloween staple. There’s even Sanderson sister costumes and talk of a remake in the works!”
Sweaters! Boots! Layers!
Executive Director, Office of Communications
“If you know me even a little bit, you probably know that I LOVE CLOTHES. My favorite season to dress for is fall — think about it: it’s blazing hot here in the summer (and OK, most of the time), so that doesn’t give us much opportunity to style a good outfit, and in the week or so of winter we get, we’re hiding under coats and blankets. But the magical season of fall when it’s cool enough to wear multiple layers but not so cold that the only priority is keeping warm! Perfect. As soon as it dips below 80 degrees, you’ll find me in sweaters and boots and vests and jackets and scarves. Fashion might seem frivolous if it’s not your thing, but research has shown that our mood can be impacted by what we wear, so you can bet that if you see me this fall, I’ll most likely be in a good one.”
Marketing & Communications Manager, Stephen Stagner Sales Excellence Institute
“Sweater weather is here! I’m more than excited to say goodbye to the sticky, hot Houston heat. Fall is probably one of my favorite seasons. It gets me bouncing up and down like a kid on Halloween. I get an excuse to wear a costume and eat all of the candy I want. Also, it’s a season away from Christmas, family time and gifts. Oh, and who doesn’t like to wear boots, scarves and tights? I’m all in for fall!”
Program Manager, Graduate & Professional Programs
“What I love most about fall is the cool weather. It’s perfect for boots and light sweaters, which I miss wearing being a native of New York. It may be a short time frame, but it’s awesome while it lasts.”
It Tastes Like …Pumpkin!
Program Manager, Bauer Honors
“Fall is by far my favorite season for so many reasons! Pumpkin-flavored everything, cooler weather (even if it’s limited here in Houston), the leaves changing color, and being able to curl up on the couch with a good book and a hot cup of cocoa! Fall also has my two favorite holidays, Thanksgiving and Christmas! Also, I love roasting marshmallows by a fire, go to football games, and getting lost in corn mazes! So much love for the fall season!”
Cold Weather! (OK, Slightly Cooler Weather!)
Finance Academic Advisor 2, Undergraduate Business Programs
“Oh fall… what a lovely time when it isn’t 92 DEGREES OUTSIDE.
My favorite part of fall is waking up, and the house is a bit chilly, and I’m all warm and wrapped up in my blankets. Essentially, my favorite thing about fall is being a human burrito. That, and wearing layers and being able to spend more time enjoying the not-so-hot outdoors. Also fall = Christmas is coming!”
“The best thing about fall in Houston is the marginally cooler weather. I always say that Houston has two seasons: summer, and cooler summer. (In all seriousness, a drop in 10 degrees in Houston gives us all an excuse to break out our sweaters.) And Pumpkin Spice Lattes, of course.
Winter is Coming
Finance & marketing senior
“I love the holiday spirit during the fall! From Halloween and Thanksgiving to anticipating Christmas and New Year’s, it’s a festive and heartwarming season where we are encouraged to help, love and celebrate those around us.”
Bauer Honors Academic Advisor
“My favorite thing about Fall is the occasional cool breeze we feel, the Thursday & Saturday college football games, my kids soccer games, and all the fun holidays from Halloween to Thanksgiving to Christmas. You know what season/holiday is approaching based on the decorations in my front yard. Right now we decked out with Halloween trimmings.”
Pet Costumes, Peace & Playoffs
Assistant Professor, Marketing & Entrepreneurship
“My favorite thing about fall is Halloween (my October birthday comes in second). I go a bit overboard with the pumpkin carving and decorating (and always end up buying way too much candy to give out) — but the neighborhood kids love it. My dog even gets in on the fun too and gives out kisses to the kids while wearing a ridiculous costume.”
Executive Administrative Assistant, External Relations
“I love the fact that autumn shows me how beautiful change can be. When I see the beautiful colors of the leaves, feel that crisp air on my face, I can look back on my year and feel peace.”
Program Manager, Student Engagement
“I have so many favorite things about fall including the cooler weather, which allows me to wear my cozy sweaters. But I think one of the best things about fall for me is college football.”
Office Coordinator, Dean’s Office
