The great philosopher Lorelai Gilmore once said, “Everything in my life has something to do with coffee.”
If you’re anything like Lorelai (and us), you’re going to be downing coffee-coffee-coffee over the next few weeks to get through the rest of the semester. Fortunately, Houston has dozens of coffee shops that also make the perfect locations for studying and getting some serious work done.
Check out our list of 9 Houston coffee shops within 10 miles of campus.
Tout Suite
Tout Suite boasts an open space with natural lighting and a variety of seating options, including cozy couch cushions and wood tables. Less than 10 minutes from campus, it’s the perfect place for a study session or break with a friend. Just keep it mind that it can get a little noisy and crowded depending on the time of day.
Hours: 10 a.m. – 12 a.m.
Distance from campus: 4.1 miles
Our picks: a classic flat white and macarons (stop by on Macaron Monday to get one free macaron when you buy 3!)
Siphon Coffee
Perfect for the coffee aficionado, Siphon makes their coffee using a siphon brewer, a unique process that brings out the drink’s richest flavors. This coffee shop is also relatively close to campus and offers several tables and couches perfect for study dates with friends. For serious study sessions, stick to visiting in the morning, since the shop tends to get crowded in the evening.
Hours: 7 a.m. – 10 p.m.
Distance from campus: 5.2 miles
Our picks: a latte and a chicken empanada
Paper Co.
Located minutes from the heart of downtown, Paper Co. is housed in a loft-style warehouse and has several individual and group tables as well as delicious Mueva coffee from Honduras. The shop is only open for a few hours each day, but it’s the perfect place if you’re looking for a relaxed atmosphere without a crowd.

Inversion Coffee & Art
One of several coffee shops in the Montrose area, Inversion coffee house offers more than just good coffee. It also displays one-of-a-kind art pieces throughout the shop and a contemporary art gallery by the Art League of Houston in the back of the building. A popular spot for college students, Inversion is the perfect place to get a taste of great coffee and great art.

Boomtown
This Heights coffee shop prides itself on having the most authentic coffee and tea. Serving their own brand of coffee (also served at Honeymoon Cafe), Boomtown is basically the definition of a “hipster” coffee spot, featuring a variety of tables, couches and art throughout the shop.

Distance from Campus: 6.4 miles
Our pick: a cappuccino
Minuti (Midtown location)
With several locations throughout Houston, Minuti offers a taste of authentic Italian coffee to customers throughout the Bayou City. The Midtown location is closest to campus, but has limited seating inside (there are a few more tables on the patio). So if you’re willing to make the drive, check out the Sugar Land or Westheimer locations instead for some more space.
Hours: 6 a.m. – 10 p.m.
Distance from Campus (midtown location): 4.3 miles
Our pick: the dirty chai latte (featuring an extra dose of caffeine)
A 2nd Cup
A 2nd Cup does more than sell coffee with one-of-a-kind names (like the Mochanut, or the Dirty Squirrel). This nonprofit coffee shop’s proceeds go to organizations helping fight human trafficking in the Houston area. With a wide, open space and dozens of tables throughout the shop, A 2nd Cup is worth the drive to get some serious studying done.
Hours: 7 a.m. – 10 p.m.
Distance from campus: 7.7 miles
Our picks: the Mochanut
Campesino Coffee House
This relatively new coffee shop brings the style of El Salvador to a house-like restaurant featuring various rooms with relaxed atmospheres. Campesino stays true to its Latin roots by serving coffee beans only from Mexico, Central and South America, and traditional Latin treats like empanadas and tamales. It’s a great low-key place to study or hangout with friends on the outside patio.
Hours: 7 a.m. – 9 p.m.
Distance from campus: 7 miles
Our picks: Cafe con leche and a chicken empanada
