Two students from Bauer share their experience at the 2019 CFP Board Registered Programs Conference they attended in February.

I went into the 2019 CFP Board Registered Programs Conference not knowing what to expect. I didn’t know that I would learn a whole lot about the day-to-day life of a certified financial planner. It felt like all the presentations were answers to questions I didn’t even know I had. I personally went so that I could learn more about the financial planning industry and how to put my best foot forward and excel where I can.
I initially chose the Personal Financial Planning track because I thought it would be able to help me in my personal life. I never would have guessed that there would be so many opportunities from just picking this specific track; the world has opened up for me and I could not have done it without the C. T. Bauer College of Business and Professor John Lopez. I am going to continuing my education in the Masters of Science in Finance program here at UH.

The 2019 CFP Board Registered Programs Conference was a great opportunity to learn more about the community of CFPs and represent UH in forum that I could make the most of. I gained valuable contacts, learned information I had not been exposed to before, and bonded with UH colleagues, professors, and administrators. Most of the students that I was able to connect with have graduated so the experience to come in contact with similar minded students has become invaluable.
I am the founding member of the Student Financial Planner’s Association within Bauer, and I am a current member of the Financial Planner’s Association Houston Chapter so, this was a golden opportunity to learn more about the governing bodies of the organizations that support these organizations. It was a golden opportunity to meet and network with people outside of my comfort zone, to grow as a certificant, and place myself in better position to pass the CFP test.
It turned out to be a great conversation piece with former alumni, current students, and networking opportunities.
