Break out that planner you diligently filled out in January (but probably forgot to use most of February) and tell us what you see marked in big, bold letters next week…

That’s right, it’s time to reward yourself for a job well done the first half of the semester and to rest and recharge for the second half. But Spring Break doesn’t have to mean an expensive trip to a beach destination — living in the country’s most diverse city means that you can feel like you’re on vacation just by visiting a few new spots.

Here are our top 3 insider spots to check out in Houston while you’re on break.
Art Is Everywhere
Yes, we’ve talked about all of the amazing street art in the city before, but there are a ton of new colorful murals to take in. Spend some time next week perfecting your Instagram model poses in front of a Florence and the Machine rose-colored wall, the Houston-proud murals at Houston Center or some of the pop-up art included in It’s Not Hou It’s Me’s list.

Dessert Is Magic
We’re not making this up — a place called Unicorn – Magical Dessert Bar opens on Westheimer on March 9, and the menu indeed sounds magical. From cake pops shaped like unicorns to pink hot chocolate, these desserts are almost too good to eat (but get your Instagram photo and then go ahead and indulge).

Cinema Is Social
Going to the movies might sound like an activity for any weekend, but to make it Spring Break special, try visiting Rooftop Cinema Club on Post Oak, where you can hang out with friends watching a movie with the Houston skyline in the background. Next week, they’ve got events planned for Selena, Bohemian Rhapsody and Pretty In Pink.
