School is officially back in session, and no matter what degree you’re pursuing, it helps to find perspective in your journey…and where better to look for perspective than a book and movie series that has charmed generations?
The bell tolled on September 1, 1991 for Hogwarts, with class in session for Harry Potter and his friends. We asked #UHBauer Social Team ambassadors what lessons they learned from the iconic characters.
What Is Right > What Is Easy
Harry Potter has taught me so much; it was hard to choose one thing. My favorite quote from the series was, “We must all face the choice between what is right and what is easy.” This quote taught me to stop taking the easy way out of things, and to work hard for what I want.

Tough Times Don’t Last, But Tough People Do
Harry Potter has a unique way of teaching us that when situations are tough and miserable, it WILL get better. He grew up under the stairs with a “family” that mistreated him… that’s tough. However, his rescue soon came and he got out of there for good. Don’t think that whatever you are going through is permanent.

Networking = More Than A Handshake
“Books! And cleverness! There are more important things — friendship and bravery.” -Hermione Granger
With every week, month, and year that you spend at Bauer, you can gather as little or as much as you wish to! I know we hear this all the time but seriously… NETWORK NETWORK NETWORK!!! People can expose you to valuable lessons in ways that the classroom can’t. Have a meaningful chat with the ones around you, and don’t fear going up to the ones who aren’t usually around you!

Friends Are A Chosen Family
What I learned from the Harry Potter series is that even if you are away from home, you can always find a family wherever you are. Even though Harry’s parents passed away when he was a child, Ron and Hermione were always there for him and treated him like family, and that’s how I treat my friends as well.
