Continuing the legacy of the donor who named our college, Ted Bauer, believing in the importance of giving back to education, the Institute of Internal Auditors (IIA) – Houston Chapter presented the generous gift of $25,000 to the C. T. Bauer College of Business on Oct. 1, 2018 during the IIA- Houston Luncheon. This gift will support scholarships for students in the Internal Audit Track.
The IIA – Houston Chapter is part of the IIA, which a global professional organization that is the voice, advocate, and educator for Internal Auditor’s around the world. The Bauer College has one of only six internal audit programs in the world and one of only three in the country to be recognized as a Center of Excellence by the Institute of Internal Auditors. The Internal Audit certificate is available to all majors at the undergraduate level and the Advanced Internal Audit certificate is available to students in the Master of Science in Accountancy program.
To help students gain the additional skills needed to go into the profession, the Internal Audit Student Association (IASA), is a free organization on campus created with the mission to continue to build on the bridge between students and professionals. Events will consist of professional development workshops, information sessions, panels, and mixers for students to grow their knowledge and network. In addition, IASA gives back to the Houston Community and fosters alumni relationships through hosting volunteer and social events.
Two unique experiences that IASA officers and members are able to attend are the Internal Auditing Education Partnership Exchange during the fall semester in Orlando, Florida and the IIA – Houston Chapter Annual Conference during the spring semester in Houston at NRG Arena. See how officers, members, and students felt during their recent experience in Orlando during the week of September 14th -16th , bringing back 1st and 3rd place in the Case Competition and a certificate to cover a part of the Certified Internal Auditor Exam!
The panel events, speakers, and the wonderful networking opportunities I had left me humbled and more knowledgeable than ever about the Internal Audit profession. But the best part were all the incredible professionals and students I met from around the U.S. and from around the world!

MIS Undergraduate,
IT & Communications Officer
IAEP has prepared me with the skills and knowledge to conduct basic internal audits and risk management. I also had the opportunity to develop my personal and leadership skills, interacting with experienced internal audit professionals.
– Natalie Hoang,
Accounting Undergraduate,
Student & Alumni Relations Officer
A key component of the conference was the case competition, where students were placed in teams to take on the hat of an Internal Auditor. Through this experience students learned more about working in a team, time management, questions to ask and added a bit of creativity to their presentations.
– Anam Mirza,
Accounting Graduate Student,

It was great to meet professionals and fellow students, and to experience the passion they share for the profession. It was such a wonderful opportunity to work with such a diverse team in presenting our case study to the attendees.
– Joselin Lopez,
Accounting Graduate Student,
Former IASA President
As an active member of Internal Audit Student Association (IASA) at The University of Houston, I had numerous opportunities to meet Internal Auditors from all levels and industries. I’ve attended both the IAEP Conference and Houston IIA Annual Conference this year. The IIA has done an excellent job in educating our future generation, internal auditors. My take away from both experiences is seeing the passion in professionals when they speak about their careers. It has given me so much perspective as a student while looking into my future profession.
