More Than A Dozen Ways to Get Involved at #UHBauer

It’s Week 2 of #Fall2019, and if you’ve already figured out where to park and how to find your classes, it’s time to take the #UHBauer student one step further: join a student organization!

This week, our student orgs are giving potential members a glimpse into who they are and what they do through Rush Week (happening until Thursday, 8/29, in the Melcher Hall back drum from 9-4 for BBAs, and in the MH AIM Lobby from 4-6 for MBA and MS students). Here, 13 of our 31 #UHBauer student organizations share their stories with you. For more information on all orgs, click here.

 

American Marketing Association

AMA-UH strives to motivate members with professional development opportunities, networking events, leadership development, and corporate experience. We create a welcoming environment for students, allowing them to grow and utilize their resources to the fullest. AMA-UH aims to embody and emulate the spirit of their members to ensure personal and professional development. Our ultimate mission is to provide a memorable experience to our sponsors, members, and alumni.

We hope to rank Top 15 nationally once again and continue to provide great opportunities for our members to grow professionally and personally.

Did You Know?

  • We rank Top 15 nationally.
  • Established in 1937, we are the oldest organization in Bauer.
  • Our org launched UH’s first student run marketing firm, Cougar Creative.
  • We are proudly affiliated with AMA Houston and AMA Nationals, giving our members a 3-in-1 membership.
  • We take a select group of members to compete in various competition at the annual AMA International Collegiate Conference.

 

Asian Business Student Association

In the Asian Business Student Association, we stand on three pillars. Those being Professional Development, Peer Networking and Public Service. With Professional Development, we host professional meetings/workshops to develop our members’ soft skills and provide them with different career opportunities. With Peer Networking, we want to ensure that our members have a place where they can be themselves and enjoy the company of other members within the organization. With Public Service, the Houston community shares so much with our organization and we like to repay them with hosting/attending community service events.

This upcoming year, we hope to create a sense of community where our members can pursue their professional, personal, and academic goals. Being away from home, we want our members to feel as if they are at home with ABSA.

  • Despite the name, we are open to all majors and ethnicities.
  • We host over 25 events every semester, such as professional meetings, socials, and community service events.
  • We are the first Bauer organization to implement a family system.
  • We have a mentor system, where a mentor can help you throughout your college career.
  • We participate in Intramural Sports.

 

Bauer Women Society

Bauer Women Society aims to build and provide a strong network of intelligent undergraduate students, alumni, faculty, and industry professionals in the Houston business community. Through skill-building workshops, corporate events, career panels, and philanthropic work, the organization aspires to promote the personal and professional development of young businesswomen.

This semester, BWS aspires to connect members and officers with women in the work field, create an organization that allows for every member to excel personally and professionally, and provide a fun and motivating atmosphere that encourages everyone to explore new business opportunities.

  • We accept all UH students!
  • Over 75% of our organization is made up of sophomores, juniors & seniors.
  • BWS holds a variety of events, including workshops, corporate events, leadership series, bake sales, socials, community service events, and directorates.
  • Our organization provides small groups known as directorates to serve different majors and improve members’ leadership skills.
  • We promote the personal and professional development of young businesswomen.

 

Collegiate Entrepreneurs’ Organization

Our mission is to inform, support and inspire college students at the University of Houston to be entrepreneurial through enterprise creation. With a diverse entrepreneurial community and global network, CEO provides student entrepreneurs with opportunities, events, chapter activities and conferences to help start businesses.

We hope to build our membership base to help positively affect as many entrepreneurial students as possible. We also hope to create the foundation for the business we hope to start within CEO. Lastly, we believe partnership with other organizations is extremely important, so we want to partner on more events with other organizations.

  • We have 10 amazing officers that have a passion for entrepreneurship. Some have started or run their own business!

Delta Sigma Pi

Delta Sigma Pi is a professional fraternity organized to foster the study of business in universities; to encourage scholarship, social activity and the association of students for their mutual advancement by research and practice; to promote closer affiliation between the commercial world and students of commerce, and to further a higher standard of commercial ethics and culture and the civic and commercial welfare of the community.

We wish to grow ourselves in many different aspects including: professional development, ethics, philanthropy, leadership and socially.

  • We are the FIRST co-ed Fraternity and one of the most diverse today.
  • More than 150,000 initiated members.
  • Our organization started in 1907 ― 112 years and counting.
  • We are the only professional business fraternity on campus.
  • Several UH professors and faculty are D.S.P. Alumni.

 

Enactus

We are a student led non-profit organization dedicated to create sustainable change in the world through the use of entrepreneurial action.

Did You Know?

  • We are an international organization in 36 different countries.
  • We have an Enactus-only job board and online career fair with companies like KPMG, Mondelez, and Hallmark.
  • We offer professional development and hands-on experience through our projects.
  • Our members empower people, improve livelihoods, and enable progress.
  • Our organization has 450 corporate partners, including: Unilever, Dell, The Coca-Cola Company, ConocoPhillips and The Hershey Company.

 

Finance Association

The Finance Association at the University of Houston has been dedicated to both our members and the community we reside in since 1982. Our goal is to develop meaningful, long-term relationships with both large and small business entities. Partnerships with valued companies will give our members the ultimate advantage during their interview and job search process. We also believe in helping others as well as ourselves. We continue the Finance Association tradition of taking part in meaningful community service such as; providing dinners to less fortunate families, and raising funds to donate to charitable organizations.

This year, the Finance Association hopes to continue to grow our FAm and to offer great opportunities, both socially and professionally!

Gamma Iota Sigma

Our missions are to promote, encourage and sustain student interest in insurance, risk management, and actuarial science as professions. We encourage high moral and scholarship attainments of its members, and facilitate interaction of educational institutions and industry through networking and by fostering research activities, scholarship and improved public relations.

The goal of GIS is to not only increase our membership numbers, but also lay the necessary ground work for GIS to prosper after our seniors officers graduate.

Hispanic Business Student Association

The Hispanic Business Student Association envisions bringing together students from different backgrounds with the purpose of preparing them for the world of business. We seek to empower our members through our 5 core pillars so that our current members continue to become today’s leaders and tomorrow’s executives.

In the coming year we hope to help members achieve their goals. Whether its developing your professionalism or meeting new study friends, we provide the tools needed for our members to have success this year. We hope to have our members receive internship and full time offers and shaping our members into future leaders.

  • Every summer we attend a National Convention hosted by our partner ALPFA, in which members get access to network and get internships with 70+ companies in attendance.

  • We host events that range from professional development and networking to competitions and social gatherings.

Internal Audit Student Association (IASA)

The Internal Audit Student Association aims to provide opportunities for each student, professional and academic development. Our goal is to deliver precise information on the internal audit field to all students’ majors and to build on the foundation of tomorrow’s business leaders. Together with the Institute of Internal Auditors, we strive to advocate the Internal Audit pathways offered at the University of Houston and provide insight of the profession along with its entities.

Our goals for the year are member turnovers and more professional events opportunities such as Volunteer and Social events with Professionals, as well as case competitions for members to be participating in.

Management Information Systems Student Organization (MISSO)

MISSO aims to put each member in the best position to succeed as students at UH. We do this by providing an atmosphere of fellowship and scholarship in learning, while partnering with employers in mutually beneficial relationships to help jump-start careers.

This year, MISSO is continuing to put our members first, focusing on getting them internships or full-time jobs in the companies and industries they are interested in. We are continuously expanding our network and trying new ideas to be more inclusive for all UH students to help them land their dream career.

  • We are the largest Bauer student organization!
  • MISSO is on its 39 year of operation!
  • We have THE highest average starting salary in Bauer.
  • 30+ companies are confirmed for our mixer on Sept 19, making it one of the largest student-run career mixer.
  • Over 70% of our active members receive full time offers prior to graduation.

 

Phi Beta Lambda

Phi Beta Lambda (PBL) is dedicated to inspiring and developing the next generation of leaders by preparing members for careers in business and business-related fields. Our conferences offer a breadth of activities that build personal and professional skills, including unique career development programs, business tours, workshops, and so much more. We aim to complement our members’ academic experience and give them an edge in their future careers. Our goal is that by participating in PBL, our members will be able to speak about the leadership positions they held for the largest collegiate business student organization in the world, the academic competitions they entered and how they fared against the very best students in the nation, and their professional development.

We hope to grow our organization by offering more networking and leadership opportunities to our members. By encouraging our members to participate in various competition categories, we aim to guide even more members to both state and national events. We hope to share the benefits of joining PBL with all members of our organization.

Did You Know?

  • All majors and interests are welcome! We offer 50 competition categories ranging from graphic design to business ethics.
  • Almost all of our members place at State Competition. We had 9 members qualify for Nationals last year!
  • You get to travel to different states and cities for State and National Competitions!
  • You will get to network with students with similar interests from various colleges at State and National Competitions!
  • You can also run for State and National officer positions to gain leadership experience!

 

Undergraduate Real Estate Scholars

Our main objective is to inform, educate and expose students to Commercial Real Estate, grow and foster their interest in pursuing prosperous careers in this industry, and develop their professional, technical, networking, and interviewing skills so they can quickly secure internships/entry-level positions at reputable commercial real estate investment firms.

We hope to increase our organization’s presence on campus by expanding or membership and have a successful semester by bringing great value to our students through our events!

Did You Know?

  • We are a smaller & more close-knit organization full of like-minded, success-oriented individuals who are all passionate about the Real Estate industry.
  • We host around 13 events a semester: 5 educational workshops where we aim to give our students a strong knowledge base in real estate to build upon, 5 guest speakers who share their experiences and advice with our students to inspire them to pursue real estate, & 3 property tours where we go as an organization to various developments in the city to experience real estate firsthand from an investment perspective.
  • URES frequently advertises and attends external networking events hosted by professional Real Estate organizations including CCIM, ULI, and NAIOP. Here, our students can easily meet and chat with industry professionals who have been working in real estate for several years. Networking with professionals is extremely crucial to securing a job, and there’s no better way to do that than by going directly to where they are!
  • Our organization works closely with and is supported by the Bauer Real Estate Program. Thus, we have no dues and membership is 100% free!
  • Several of our real estate alumni have placed into many positions within various firms throughout Houston. Some notable commercial real estate firms include Camden, Greystar, Situs, Newmark Knight Frank, Cushman and Wakefield, Moody Rambin and Lionstone.

 

UH Society for Human Resource Management

We strive to provide a sense of community and camaraderie among students enrolled in Bauer or that are interested in Human Resources. We acquaint students considering a future in business with the field of human resource management. We strive to be the source for developing the talent and leadership of people and will strive to adhere to the Code of Ethics of SHRM. We provide students of all majors with career development advice and contacts through professional and social events.

Our goal this year is to gain more members to be able to help more people make connections.

  • This is the only management-focused organization in Bauer!
  • You don’t have to be in Bauer to join. We have lots of College of Technology members.
  • Fun Fact 3- Many people have received jobs/internships because of connection made in SHRM.
  • We’re a small organization, so it’s easier to make long-lasting connections with guest speakers.
  • We host everything from socials, professional development workshops, and even take visits to some BIG companies.
